    Loss of ADSL

Im really getting fed up with my situation. It even happened the first time I tried to post this message.
Whilst using the internet I just lose all contact with it. I cannot look up any pages etc. If I click on Mozilla or IE they cannot find their home pages. This first occured with a Thomson router so obtained another which made no difference. I then tried an old D-Link one and this to hasn't solved the problem. The only difference betweent the 2 is the Thomsons when the internet goes lose their Broadband/ADSL light whereas the D-Link does not. To get it back I may have to reboot the router and my PC numerous time.. On occasions I even have to disconnect the phone near to the PC and connect only the router to the phone outlet. There is another PC connected to the router, both connect via ethernet, and that cannot access the internet either. So as both PCs fail im ruling out the PC and as 3 routers don't work I think they are in the clear. So what is left? One point of note is that there are 10 phone outlets around the house with currently 3 phones connected, each using a filter. Using the Thomson box as a sort of test box when the internet goes if I plug it in from say outlet 5 onwards, all are daisey chained, the ADSL light is gone, sockets 1-4 show it. Now this setup has worked fine for ages then over say the last 6 months has started playing up. It may be ok for a week then fail 3 or 4 times in a day. There is no consistancy with it. Am I missing the obvious? The only thing I can think of is the introduction of an HP all in one printer/fax. But even the fax is connected to a filtered line.
    Thanks

    Re: Loss of ADSL

Could be your BT line. I had a similar problem some months back and tried several routers and even had a BT engineer come out and tell me it was not their line.

Fortunately I am with Zen, and they were able to retrieve their records for me which clearly showed the line dropping out at irregular intervals, and in addition I used a programme called RouterStats Lite, and with the info they provided "finally" managed to convince BT it was their line.

Worth talking to your ISP to see if they can shed some light from their records.

    Re: Loss of ADSL

If you can, disconnect all the extensions and plug the router into the master socket - just to rule out interference on the line.

It is possible that the fax machine is interfering with the ADSL signal - if you can switch that off, you can eliminate that as a source of interference. Once you have eliminated - as far as you can - any cause on your side of the telephone line, raise it with your ISP as other posts suggest.

Oops, forgot to add the link for you

    http://routerstats-lite.software.informer.com/

If you run this is in the background and your line drops out you can take a screenshot to send.......it is quite persuasive in an altercation when the "other party" can see that you have recording software and are able to be quite specific about exactly when the line drops and the noise margins. Also good for seeing patterns (ie) as in my case it was during specific times of the evenings.

    Good luck with the resolution
