It isn't just light fastness, it is the material the outer sheath is made from. Ideally you should use exterior grade cable. The outer sheath is tougher (so resists abrasion) and is UV resistant. UV tends to affect the plsticiser in plastics, which is why they go brittle.

Wraping the cable in tape is not a good idea! You don't know what the UV properties of the tape are, and the glue tends to ooze and the whole cable becomes sticky.

If the cable can be protected from direct sunlight, and mechanical damage, standard cable can be used, but I wouldn't recommend it.

    Some info here...

This is a source of suitable exterior grade cable.

When the cable leaves/enter the building, loop it down (a drip loop) and back up before running it along the fence or wall so the water doesn't track back into the building through the entry hole. You can also seal the cable entry with a suitable silicone sealant.

Thanks mate, is that website reliable? deliver stuff via courier and not royal mail? price seems fine and ticks all the boxes for what i am after for a network cable ie weather proof/outdoor use.

I imagine i apply the same technique in installing the RJ45 connectors in or a "patch panel". sorry for sounding noobish, im all new to installing such kind of networks between buildingd

    Yes, terminates the same way.

It is a big company - not one I have used, but I would expect them to use a courrier. Ring them up and ask?

    Re: best reliable homeplug device

Question to the owners of Delovo 200Mbps Started Packs - what sort of speeds you guys are getting?

At home I've been getting around 3.5MB/s, at work 4.5MB/s which isn't great for product at around ~65... 200Mbps won't happen I suppose.
