Question BBC Iplayer from PC upstairs to downstairs TV?

    Hi all,

Was wondering if any one can find a solution to my little project that i want to do?

That is "BBC Iplayer from PC upstairs to downstairs TV (Streaming)?

My TV has a VGA input, but dont really want to have a really long VGA cable going from upstairs to down stairs living room.

Also i have a WiFi Router if any one knows of any devices that can send the sound and picture over the network?

Can and recommended any cool little boxes that can sent my PC Display to my TV via a network cable?

Any ideas would be grateful .

You can get boxes that will convert VGA to be sent over the ethernet cable (not over existing network) but if you don't want a VGA cable running all that way your aren't going to want a ethernet cable.

Don't mind having long ethernet cable as just thought that a Long VGA cable would carry poor quality signal and did not think you could get VGA cables that long?

What are they called that convert the VGA to ethernet? Do they do a DVI version.
Also does it also carry sound through the ethernet cable?

    Cheers Fella.

I think they are called Baluns. Don't quote me on this, but I understand they convert the electrical frequency to something cat 5/5e is designed for, and then back again.

Pretty sure you can get them for vga, dvi, hdmi etc... I presume you could get some to take sound?? I think the ball park figure for decent quality ones are about £50-60 a pair.

    That sounds about right.

You'd probaly be best to get a vga one and once for RCA so you'd haved to have two cables.

Just type something like like 'VGA over ethernet' into google.

Seems to be a long way for a shortcut. Have you considered a net-top or a games console and just watching it directly on the TV rather than remotely?
