We've all seen the noise BT are making on this but does anyone know if BT have actually started to commit to laying Fibre to the Cabinet yet?
If they have (even in test areas) does anyone know where?
Thanks in advance.

New estates will be the first to get it as there has to be available 'duct space' through which to run the fibre .
They've been doing it around where I work in London (EC1/2).
FTTC started some time ago, but it will be a slow gradual process much like the initial rollout of ADSL in the UK. With all the fuss some of the new cabinate placement seems to be throwing up BT/Openreach is likely crossing every t and dotting every i in terms of planning regulations. So if you want someone to blame the local moaners who don't want faster internet in your local area might be a start, that and the fact BT is doing this under their own steam with little governement help.
Why don`t BT put the street cabinets under Ground, more work i know but once it`s done it will sorted for the next 100 plus years.

Never said you were, unless you are...
Nope, not seen any specs indicating that they will also act as a WiFi point, and can't see why they would, for BT retail to rent space in an Openreach PCP to provide WiFi is alot more expensive then makeing some phonecalls and getting some of their own customers to opt into BTFON/Openzone.
