PCI-E WiFi Cards, Anyone Using One?.

Just been looking at the kids new pc and i've decided to get a PCI-E wifi card to install to save blocking the airflow into their gfx card. Anyone here using one or can recommend anything at all?, looked on Scans site and they only seem to have one and thats only 54mbps.

Re: PCI-E WiFi Cards, Anyone Using One?.

USB ones tend to be far more popular.

Have you seent this? Edimax EW-7711Uan Worlds smallest 11g & (11n-150mbps) wireless USB 3dbi High Gain, Win7 Ready

For that money I wouldn't consider a PCIe one. Can be plugged directly to a system, or through the weightd USB extension "stand" (or this can be used for any other USB device as it is just an extension with a weighted connector). Although I haven't used mine much, it was been useful in the past. Drivers installed easily and appeared to work without an issue.

I'll be giving it a go when I set up my bedroom HTPC again. Might have to run a cable, i've never tried to stream TV over wireless before.

Well it's in the room next to the wireless router so it get good speeds. I haven't tested it extensively as it is not on my PC and it is only used for web browsing.

Re: PCI-E WiFi Cards, Anyone Using One?.

I've owned both, don't even consider the Edimax, I've had two consecutive usb wifi adapters fail on me.
Abit works ok, although I had a bit of a problem getting it working on 64bit vista. Once it was working though, I upgraded the aerial with a high gain from maplin and was getting excellent signal from the neighbours down the road (with their permission of course).
The Abit has now been moved to the GF's machine and is working (all be it a bit temperamental at times initially getting a connection) and I replaced it with a belkin 54g which I prefer (no problems with drivers at all and always reliable)

As long as you find the right drivers it works no problem.
The only problem is finding the drivers. Here they are:
