    Workstation time / Server Time

We have a Windows 2008 server and Vista Business clients. The time on the workstations was a couple of mins slow, so I went on the server, and noticed it was a couple of mins slow there - as I expected.

I've changed the time on the server, yet the clients still report a time 2-3 mins behind? - I've logged off, to no avail, and restarted, again to no avail.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can get the PCs to synchronise their time with the server?

if you've got login scripts add the line - that way every time your computers login to the domain they'll get their time updated.

    Code:
    net time \\[servername] /set /yes

Re: Workstation time / Server Time

The algorithm for time sync is based on a preference to skew the speed of the clock ticks to converge on the correct time rather than make a sudden jump (audit logs don't like going back in time, in particular).

A time skew of >5 minutes in either direction will also break Kerberos, so the clients will keep themselves in sync with a domain controller by default without anyone being logged on.

The command line tool w32tm.exe is more flexible than "net time" by the way, it uses the settings from the registry that the W32Time service uses.
