Problem: -
I'll be playing online and all of a sudden, I'll lose my connectivity. The router still shows that it's connected, and when I check with my netbook via wireless, I can still get online. Windows 7 usually drops the network to "unidentified", which as far as I can tell, means it's lost the IP address and it's not receiving a new one from the DCHP on the router. I've tested this by moving the cable from my PC to the netbook, disabling the wireless and seeing whather the netbook can connect. It appears to have the same problem of not getting an IP address assignment either. Only after switching it on and off does it seem to fix the problem. It doesn't happen very often. It used to be weekly at most, but recently it appears to happen daily now. I can only conclude that my router is on its way out (after only 4 years).
So, I was wondering whather anyone else have any ideas before I shell out for a new router. Also, is there any router in particular someone would recommend? I suppose now might be a good time to get N for a bit of future proofing. I was wondering whether it would be possible to get one that would allow me to throttle connections to various LAN users (should I end up sharing again and I want to "reserve" myself some bandwidth!). However, I would imagine a feature like this would be a bit more expensive.
Anyway, I would appreciate any help/info on this situation.![]()
