I'm about to be a tad negative about Draytek....

    first time ever.

I've been looking for a new router for a long while, ready for ADSL2+ and now I know I'm gonna get upgraded to 21CN, I started looking for a new Draytek, found what I wanted.. and kept eye on ebay.

    Long story short: bid, bought.

I chose the 2820 cos I also wanted Gigbit networking for my PC's and new Windows Home Server.
The 2720 range was just as good but has onot got Gigabit network.

Except the 2820 has only 1 Gigabit port.. the other 3 turn out to be 100mb ports.

SO... with the exception of slightly faster upload WHEN I get 21CN broadband... I'm gonna need a gigabit switch which I couls have got for the older router.

Shame huh? Thought I'd best mention it.

    *rubs eyes*

    Surely not!

At least 4 port Gigabit switches aren't too expensive.

Still a top class routeer though, and a Netgear Gigabit switch works a treat! (GS 108)

BUT there switches, (not the home-line ones) the likes of the GS's are top notch.

They're fine with a custom firmware. Most routers cpu and adsl chipsets (Broadcom SoC springs up a lot) are pretty similar, just the firmware that seperates them.

you are not the only one... i was just as shocked when i looked at it!
luckily, i only bought the router to share a 3G usb stick, but now im thinking i may need that gigabit switch pretty soon

on a postitive note, the router has been bombproof - had to reset it once since i bought it probably about year ago, give or take a month or so

Yeah I wish Draytek would stick gigabit PHYs on all the ports.
