Amazon won't load images with internal DNS servers + DNS issues

    Hi there,

When I use my internal DNS server images are not displayed on amazon and other websites (cant remember which ones now) I have had this problem before and cannot work it out. This problem is the same on every other PC that I set to use the internal DNS server (2003 server) yet it works fine using my ISP's DNS servers BUT when I used open DNS servers I had this exact same problem which confuses me even more.

Second problem is that sometimes with one of my domain names it does not resolve without the www prefix before it. I have to run ipconfig /flushdns then it works. But a while later I get the same problem again (works fine on 3 other computers in the house)

If anyone has any idea what can be the problem with either of the above please let me know as I cannot understand it at all.

    Thanks

What platform are you running your DNS server on? Are you using it as a caching DNS server or are you providing a full DNS service?

Don't forget DNS is hierarchical, and it does take time for changes to propogate across the net.

    Simple overview:

More technical guide (and written from a Microsoft server product point of view)

A guide written from the open source BIND DNS server software

djbdns is another open source DNS server - this guide also gives some useful information
