    Wireless networking help

    Hi

When it comes to networks I'm a bit of a n00b, most ive ever done is stick an ethernet card in 2 PCs and put a crossover cable between them. Anyway, im after a wireless network for my house. (at the moment just 1 PC and 1 laptop) but i want to be able to connect another 2 laptops (firends) and i plan on buying either antoehr laptop or another PC soon. would I be right in assuming that all i need is something like

    http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductInfoComm.asp?ID=8221

    with something like

    http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductInfoComm.asp?ID=9900

    for each machine?

    Thanks
    Falcon

for pcs you'll need internal pci, or usb adaptors. FOr the laptops either pcmcia cards, or usb. Stick with one manufacturer for all the kit ( i recommend netgear) and choose one speed for it all (probably 'g' and it works at 54mbps). If you want to use the wlan with another wired network / ethernet cable/dsl modem you'll need an access point or router.

You can do, as an ad-hoc network; personally, if I were going to spend the money on WLAN kit for 5 machines, I'd buy an access point as well (or a router if 'net access required), and set up as an infrastructure network. Makes it easier security-wise, and you should get better performance.
