    Paid VPN Services

    Hey Folks,

I have a requirement / want to start using a VPN service on a subscription basis.

I have been reading up a fair bit and can see many benefits of using a VPN service for security and anonymity. Here are a few key points:

    • Anonymous access
    • Access country specific content
    • Torrent / P2P safety
    • Secure access from Hotspots
    • Avoid traffic shaping

I do not wish to debate the reasons behind using them other than to say my requirements are on lots of different levels. What I was wondering is if anyone else has any experience of these paid VPN services that either use a client of PPTP networking.

Services like Ipredator (from the piratebay folks), hidemyass.com, itshidden, blackvpn, blackvault, strong vpn etc.

I am having a hard time to find people who actually use them and have written about their experiences so I decided to try the expanse of knowledge that is Hexus.

    Any opinions or experiences?

    Kip

I used Witopia for a short while.

Service was ok and they have servers all round the world.

Customer service via email was speedy too.

    Re: Paid VPN Services

I rent my own VPS server and setup my own VPN. I think it is better in terms of privacy. There is no guarantee that the VPN provider won't spy on you!

It is also cheaper and I get to setup webserver and stuff.
