ADSL connection... possible to use ethernet modem and dsl router?

I live in an ADSL area currently

I may be moving to a cable one
Is it possible to get a DSL router (Linksys WRT160N) and then get an ethernet ADSL modem such as
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BT-VOYAGER-210...item414ea53e4e
    or
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Zoom-X3-ADSL-E...item2c54071bd3

to go with it separately so I can use the router when I move next in either an ADSL or cable area? (Found the WRT160N router for a VERY good price (£15 new) and sick of my current netgear dying every couple of hours)

    Cheers

Yep, it's entirely possible. I was doing the same a couple of years ago using an ethernet ADSL modem (I forget what model) with a Cisco 1760 while I was waiting for the ADSL WIC to arrive for the Cisco.

You mean use an Ethernet/cable router with an ADSL-Ethernet modem right? If so yeah it's perfectly possible as burble said and cable modems are often better than ADSL equivalents anyway. I've heard this is a good modem: http://draytek.co.uk/products/vigor120.html

The draytek is £50, the router is less than 1/3 that after cashback

It's why I'm looking at cheaper alternatives

Thanks for the info, 150mbps draft n for £25ish ftw

I use the 120 to pass through to my pfSense Router, it's very good.
