Orange Livebox Problem

I have an Orange Livebox.

I have a PC wired to the red ethernet port - everything is fine with that.

I have several devices that are paired to connect wirelessly ( 2 laptops / iphone / TV dongle ) - everything is fine with them.



I have wired up the yellow ethernet port and any device I connect to this is given an IP address by the livebox but the connected device seems unable to see the internet!! UPnP is enabled in the Livebox.



What is going wrong?

They should both work for internet and so on, but the yellow one specifically is used for firmware updates and so on IIRC, maybe it's confused and thinks it's not a proper network device attached on that port :/

Also, they're a steaming pile of horse manure, but that's nothing new. In fact, that could be the reason.

So why would it give the device an IP address?

Well, I guess it depends which protocol the recovery device would use.

I'm only clutching at straws really, I used a Livebox for years but never had the problem you mentioned.

I'd imagine the most likely scenario is that it's just broken, see point B) Steaming pile of horse manure

In years - since I got the livebox - and I've been with Orange since they were freeserve - this is the first time I've tried to use the yellow port......so if it's broken do you think I should contact Orange and get a replacement?

I'd be surprised if it was broken - I am suspecting there might be a setting I need to tweak to get it to work.

Could at least ask... if I remember rightly (may have changed now) part of the money you paid Orange each month was a lease for the box, so they should replace it if you ask them to.

Even if it's not a lease, I'd imagine they'd happily send you a new one, it's not as if it costs them any appreciable amount to ship a new one out.

Or they might know what's up with it and suggest a fix... doesn't sound like anything obvious though.

I assumed you had one of the old Liveboxes like I'm used to, don't think they ever did TV. I could be wrong though.

I have got one of the old liveboxes but I also signed up for the IPTV trial that they ran a couple of years ago. They gave me some homeplugs and a STB but my connection was too slow...it kept falling over when we reached about 9meg....so I dropped the trial and returned the stb and the homeplugs....I'm assuming they'll have flashed my livebox with some software for that trial as they did not issue a replacement router........I'll report back tonight if this is the case.

Oh and during that trial I never connected up the homeplugs or the STB as as soon as i signed up they put the accelerator on my connection and it kept falling over.
It was never up long enough to actually try out the kit!
It took me 2 weeks to get removed from the trial and my conn reset IIRC.

Managed to disable the ADSL TV and am connected via the yellow port right now.....sadly the bluray player still cannot see the internet
