Unhappy Ethernet Controller Registry Corrupt/WinSock Xp Fix Not Working..Please Help

I have XP(SP3) and Win 7 Ultimate Edition.

On XP..everytime I boot ,I get a Destination Host Unreachable error when I ping my DNS Server IP(172.16.0.1)...and as a result I'm not able to access Internet(Page Cannot be Displayed).I have a DSL Cable 256kbps Unlimited static IP connection.

When I run WinsockxpFix(as suggested by this forum previously),it does what its programmed to do and then it reboots my machine...

I login into XP and then I reconfigure my LAN Settings(put the IP,Subnet Mask,Gateway,DNS,Alternate DNS values) and then Internet works fine..When i ping the DNS (ping -t 172.16.0.1),I get normal replies....

However, the moment I restart XP,I get the same Destination Host Unreachable when pinging DNS and I have to repeat the cycle mentioned above to get my Internet connection working...

    Here's the results of ipconfig/all:

    Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
    (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>ipconfig/all

    DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 172.16.0.1
    202.54.1.63

Added to this,on Device Manager I find that there are four entries under the Network Adapter Tab and two of them have an Exclamation Mark beside them(my motherboard has two LAN Cards).
When I went to the properties tab it says that the Registry entry for those two particular Ethernet Device may have been corrupted...

Is this the reason for the problem stated above??

I'm really getting very frustrated about this as I cant seem to get a solution anywhere.

    Please help.

PS: Is there any way to attach screenshots on this post?

It's because your host IP address and DNS servers aren't in the same subnet, either give your DNS server an IP address in your subnet, or put a router between the two subnets.

I do not have any router.
The same configuration works fine on my Windows 7 Ultimate & I have absolutely no problems accessing Internet from Windows 7.

All the configurations IPs have been provided to me by my ISP (Wishnet Broadband,a popular private Broadband service provider in India)

Then there's a simple solution, delete 172.16.0.1 from your DNS server list. Your ISPs proper DNS server will do it.

Your ISP probably called it a 'modem'.

It wouldn't have been the exact same configuration, machines in 10.x.x.x and 172.16.x.x can't directly talk to each other.. Regardless of Operating System. At best Windows XP is strangely not moving on from the primary DNS entry you gave.

I can delete 172.16.0.1...But what other entry shall I put there??
And I re-checked...both my Win7 Ultimate Lan and Win XP Lan have the same configuration on my machine.

The secondary address 202.54.1.63 should work just fine.

Re: Ethernet Controller Registry Corrupt/WinSock Xp Fix Not Working..Please Help

    Hello....update here:

I tried plugging in my LAN Cable to the second LAN Port on my machine...
I tried changing the DNS from 172.16.0.1 to 202.54.1.63..
I tried uninstalling the Ethernet Controllers from Safe Mode /Safe Mode With networking..Not allowing me to uninstall
I ran Advanced System Optimizer for full registry cleaning...

    Nothing works...

    the problem persists...
Even after running Winsockxpfix and resetting connection,I now seem to get very frequent Request Time Out Errors on XP.

What happens if you just set your NIC to DHCP?

If you set the network adapter to DHCP, then run

    ipconfig /all

from a command line what results does it give you? You should be fine posting them here, as the results should be all in your private range. I'm also intrigued as to what else your netowrk consists of: can you give any further information? It may help us track down the source of your issues.
