    Devolo homeplug woe

My homeplug network setup consists of a pair of Devolo 85 Mbps homeplugs, one connected to my wireless router and sharing the same 2-gang mains socket, the other is upstairs and is connected to my PC and again the homeplug shares a 2-gang mains socket with the power strip for the PC/monitor/printer etc.

This setup worked perfectly for over a year, with my broadband test speeds exceeding 5.5 Mbps but recently the same PC has been unable to connect to the internet at reasonable speeds and reliability, with the internet timing out more often than not. A laptop directly connected to the router via wired or wireless achieves broadband speed tests of at least 5 Mbps which leads me to suspect a problem with the homeplug setup.

I've tested the plugs and they seem fine, but with the homeplug network informer app running, it reports connection rates no greater than 1Mbps, even with the Homeplug device plugged in to a completely different mains socket.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why I'm suddenly experiencing problems when nothing about my setup has changed, same equipment etc?

    TIA

    Johno

Most likely explanation would be some interference on the mains cct. Have you plugged in something newly purchased recently?

Things like a faulty freezer or anything high voltage will cause this. It can be very hard to trackdown without turning stuff on and off.

Hmmm, both responses have got me thinking...

There's nothing new plugged in anywhere in the house but our freezer does need defrosting - I'll try unplugging that and see what happens.

Thanks for the responses so far

    Re: Devolo homeplug woe

    Hi there,

I am suffering the exact same issue as you - although I am using Devolo 200 aveasy as opposed to 85. I've had my network running perfectly for over a year. Have 3 devolo adapters and one devolo wireless router and got great speeds all over the house.

Now I get good speeds with the pc that is attached in the same room as the router - but get rubbish (i.e. limited or no connectivity) throughout the rest of the house.

I have not even tried calling devolo as yet as I find them useless.

Have you had any luck in understanding what your issue could be? I too have been unplugging things like a demon - but to no avail.

Would be great to hear from you.

    Cheers
    Tim
