[QUOTE=snootyjim;1940567]I just think that measurement systems should be as simple as possible - the metric system was a good idea. Having a dual-measurement system isn't really ideal. Doesn't really go much further than that to be honest.[/QUOTE

Unfortunately binary is not a metric system! If only we had 8 digits on each hand - then we wod all be counting in base 8 or base 16 - make life a lot easier!

And then we wouldn't get the problem with computer scientists mistaking Halloween with Christmas (because they confuse OCT 31 with DEC 25)

    Re: 8 meg = 800kb/s download speed???

My baseline speed measurement is that my first ever ADSL link of 512k was able to get 60 kilobytes per second actual download speed, so by my crude calculations an 8 meg link, under perfect conditions, should be able to reach 960 kilobytes per second download speed.

But then again, I'm probably wrong.

I agree though, mega-bits should be done away with. You don't hear people talking about megacentimetres.
Did anyone spot this? There's 2 SI prefixes in the same unit
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SI_prefix

mega and centi are both SI prefixes for 10^6 and 10^-2 respectively, you wouldn't use them together.
