Anyone know what this is all about:
"A license has expired on the Proxy, and your request is not permitted: "The SGOS license has expired"
Happens on both Google.co.uk & Google.com
anyone else getting this ?

Got any browser toolbars etc installed?
Clean install of firefox, and no tool bars per-say in IE, just some add-on's like spell checker, Spybot-S&D etc. Tried disabling them all, still happens.
Poped by my ISP support forums, and seems as if a few other users are having the same problem, i think it might be ISP related.
If it is then the ISP should get round to sorting it, hopefully.
Edit:
I think you may be right.

I have a friend who has talktalk as their isp with same error message.
There certainly was a problem reported with Tiscali (TalkTalk) DNS servers. It appears to have been resolved now, but I've also seen people recommending changing your router's settings to :-
Preferred DNS Server- 212.74.112.66
Alternate DNS Server - 212.74.112.67
If means you aren't using the DNS they reportedly had problems with (believed to be 212.139.132.36 or maybe 212.74.114.213), but as it seems to have been fixed, there now seems little point. I've put those settings in hear just in case the apparent fix unfixes itself, and the problem re-occurs. At least it should give a workaround if that happens.
Forget TalkTalk's DNS use Google, 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 .
Using Google's proxy servers lets them record all your web browsing activity does it not? I'm sure it was in their T&Cs that you had to let them do that...

Yup but only through Google SSL so no logging should occur...

There's a DNS Benchmark utility here if you want to benchmark DNS servers from your location. Don't forget ping doesn't tell the whole story for DNS.
Of course, I only used that as an example.
I had/have an ongoing issue with the DNS pairs BT use. I had to find a way to log the issues so I can report back to the poor guy that picked up my support call. Having a Smoothwall meant I could log pings as part of the process.
In their defence the support guy has followed up every single report with a new solution, going as far as saying how poor BT's equipment (Business broadband router - 2Wire crap) is at handling manual DNS pairs.
I'm actually using Google's DNS as a result of my "tests"
