    NAS Setup??

I've just installed a Thecus n2100 onto my home LAN and have it all setup in RAID 1, ready to go.

The only I'm stuck with is how to access the files stored on the NAS easily from each PC. Surely I dont have to map each shared folder on the NAS!? I cant find a way of just mapping the NAS so that I double click on it in My Computer and I can see all folders there, just as if it were a local drive?

At the moment I'm having to map each folder i.e. \\192.168.0.30\itunes or \\192.168.0.30\photos. I want to just be able to browse the NAS without having all these mapped drives

    Re: NAS Setup??

You could always create a data folder and share that. Put your other folders in the data folder and access everything at \\192.168.0.30\data.

Good idea! Not sure how I didnt think of that myself, but sounds like a plan for now - unless anyone else has a better one?

It doesnt seem to see the NAS like that for some reason. It lists the n2100 but if I double click it takes me to the webUI in internet explorer - I cant find any way to just browse it over the network without mapping a folder!

It's the default action for things like routers and access points in Windows 7. I use a FreeNAS box and it works as Gonzo said. I can only assume Windows 7 thinks your NAS is similar to a router and treats it like one.

You could try accessing \\192.168.0.30 and see if that then lists the folders from there. If that worked you could create a shortcut and place wherever is convenient for you.

That said I use a root folder to store the lower folders out of habit from the days of FAT. I also find it easier to change permissions and backup etc. using a root folder. I know it's no different - it's just the way I like it.

Sounds like some sort of 'discovery' is turned on via UPNP which loads WebUI.

Check configuration to make sure you're on the same workgroup as your main PC.

Another thought - maybe your shares are hidden?
