    Network help needed

I wanted to connect my blu ray player(ethernet port) to my wireless network.

Now I know the easiest way to do this is to get an ethernet bridge/gaming adapter.

What I wondered though, is that in the living room where the blu ray player is (the router a wrt54gs) is in an upstairs bedroom (where I have my desktop connected via ethernet). In the living room we also have another desktop, and a laptop, both of which are used wirelessly. In the kitchen, next to the living room, I have a squeezebox, which wirelessly connects to my network and streams internet radio, or my music collection.

My question is, as I will have to have a box to connect the blu ray player anyway (if I just go with the ethernet bridge option), is there something I can get that I can connect the player to, while at the same time, boosting my wireless signal round the house.

I've heard of access points, bridges, extenders etc. I don't know which one it is that I need that will do what I want it to. Is it an access point? Or do I get another cheap router that can be used for my purpose?

I'm trying to kill 2 birds with one stone here. I wanted to go for the cheapest option (which would be the ethernet bridge) but I would spend a bit more if I can also boost my wireless signal at the same time.

I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

You could get a wireless bridge that connects to you wrt54gs and shares the connection to your bluray using an ethernet cable.

    You could get:

AFAIK there aren't any bridges that will allow you to use them as a repeater at the same time as being used as a bridge. Also repeaters can't normally repeat a WPA protected wi-fi signal the best security you can use is WEP.

I don't think you are going to be able to boost your wifi signal using a single device. I'm not sure you will be able to boost the single at all, without some compromise. Also, remember that if you do run a repeater for 802.11g then you are effectively halving the bandwidth available for the clients using the repeater. This is becuase 802.11g is half duplex, I don't know if this still applies to 802.11n.

    Re: Network help needed

I would use home plug for that. You could even use a home plug device, into a wireless router (switch port not WAN port) and then have the blue ray plugged into another switch port on that router.

This will give you a new wireless signal that is connected to your network via home plug and allow yout to also plug the bluray with a cable.
