    Spec me an ADSL modem/router

    Hi Guys,

Basically im planning on upgrading my home network to support gigabit streaming of film and data from a NAS box and I would like some advice on a new modem/router. It needs:

ADSL modem built in (on talk talK)
    300mbps wifi
10/100/1000 LAN support with 4 ports
    Usual firewall stuff

Ive been reading round and im struggling to come to a decision so would be grateful for some expert opinion. My current one is a netgear but im not fussy about brand, just want something with decent transfers, good stability and that isnt too complicated to set up. Price range ~£100-150.

    Cheers guys,

Sadly mutually exclusive. Enjoy your flappy ppp connections on any router.

It's not going to be a popular option, but have a look at the project link in my sig to see what I did.

Basically, I have a Draytek modem/router, gigabit switch and a wireless AP. All seperate units, which gives me far more power and flexability.

    I'd back wot he said.
    Draytek for stable router
    Gigabit Switch for your connectivity
and a separate AP (or multiple APs) to give you coverage/ speed requirements.

Or none at all if you have an older one

Looks like I'll be extending this setup as I'm trying to move into a 5 bedroom house spread over 4 floors. I think I'll need a few more APs and a larger switch

Re: Spec me an ADSL modem/router

As above. If you are going to have more than 4 network ports you might as well get a gigabit tch - the router doesn't really need one as the limiting factor on the gateway will be ADSL, but as the Drayteks have one - you might as well use it!

My own set up is a Draytek 2800 (no gigabit) with wireless, feeding a couple of gigabit switches for those devices that use it and a second physical lan running at 100 for slower devices like printers, All on the same logical subnet, but allowed me to re-use kit that wouild otherwise have been redubdant.
