PCMCIA GPRS card for tablet PC

I have just picked up a rather old tablet PC to play with, its resonably well equipped with bluetooth and wifi, but I would like to try it with a some form of internet on the move.

So any pointers for a good but cheap pcmcia card (happy with used), and a good pay as you go sim card to get. Have lookedat afew on ebay, just not sure if I need 3g, HSDPA, etc.

    Cheers

i have an old vodaphone huawei pcmcia hsdpa modem that is a pretty solid piece of kit. but basically the standard you want to be aiming for is hsdpa with a throughput of 7.2Mbps or 3.6 Mbps. alot of the older pcmcia modems are either 3g only modems and are not very fast or the older 1.8Mbps standard. which is still pretty respectable. you can old use the expesscard adapters as most come with a pcmcia adapter

I'd try to get one that's unlocked, or free/cheaply unlockable. It's a right pain to have a locked connection, especially when you go somewhere (eg abroad) when your current network won't reach.

I would go for Three: the Ofcom coverage maps pretty much say it all:

What sort of Tablet to you have?
What about using the USB 3G modems for mobile Internet, it may be cheaper then a PCMCIA card.

Re: PCMCIA GPRS card for tablet PC

The last link in my sig is to a post i made detailing all the rewards on the forums for hanging around and contributing to the community.

Otherwise known as the "Post count and other rewards" thread

And yes, it is for both sending and receiving PMs.

Anyway, that's enough OT discussion for this thread I think
