Question Non LLU ISP Recommendation- Moving from Orange

    Orange. Worst ISP.

Been stuck with them too long want to move and have requested a MAC code.

I'm looking for lowest latency as I like to play games online. Live about 50m from my exchange and have good line stats. Being rural can only get up to 8mb on ADSL Max.

I've been looking at PlusNet for a while but recently have seen lots of complaints!?

    Just went on:
    http://www.ispreview.co.uk/review/top10.php

Seems like the "top rated" on there are ISPs that are relativley unheard of in the UK to the average consumer (maybe this is a good thing?)

The top 2 on there seem to be Fast.co.uk and XILO.

Not a very heavy user but mum likes to watch Iplayer so possibly a 20GB policy to avoid any costly extra charges.

    Who would you guys recommend?

    Cheers

I'm with Zen and they have been fantastic. Yes they cost more than others, but they have been worth it for my current line. I sync at about 14mbit, and have seen downloads of 1.5MB/sec sustained from the likes of Microsoft and Adobe in Opera.

I was with Zen before I switched to Be's LLU package, and I'd still recommend them in a heartbeat.

On the rare occasions when something went wrong (invariably my screwup or BT's, not Zen's), their tech support was absolutely top-notch - polite, friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Other than that, I had absolutely no reason to even think about my connection, which is as it should be.

This was a few years ago, admittedly, but AFAIK they're still very highly regarded - if you look at them purely in terms of bang for the buck they may seem a little expensive, but the extra cost is only about the price of a (small) round of drinks every month, and when you see other people moaning about their providers it's money well spent IMO.

I'm in exactly the same place as you are....

Rural (hence no LLU), exchange is about 100m away.

I'm with plusnet, the only problem being is savage traffic managment of p2p between about 7pm and 11pm. Everything else is lightning fast.

The good thing about plusnet is they are upfront with throttling/prioritisation. I find it's better to know what they are doing than no knowing (like talktalk/O2/BE etc).

Someone else has recommended IDNet they also look good and are cheaper than Fast.co.uk so don't really know who to go for?
