    Question WDS setup

Does anyone have any experience with WDS setup?

I've got a standard O2 router and Tenda router (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/169923). I've followed guides in the reviews on ebuyer but just can't get it to work reliably.

I can connect to the Tenda, get a IP address (Sometimes need to rerequest via DHCP for address), can ping/tracert google.com with odd missing results quite at random (plus DNS sometimes fails).

It looks like 50% of packets are just going missing seemingly at random.

    The current setup is:
    Two different SSIDs
WEP with same key (Would like WPA but i'll settle for working first)
Both on channel 6 which appears relatively clear - I have no problems directly connecting to router from PC which is further away- I only want this as a ethernet<>wireless bridge for freesat+xbox.
Both Routers are configured for WDS and have the other router as WDS devices

Any ideas as I'd really like to get this sorted and I've played about for several hours.

    Thanks.

    Re: WDS setup

Just to add I have now tried with an open network (Briefly I might add!) but no luck - exactly the same packet dropping...

    Has anyone got WDS working?

    Re: WDS setup

Guess no one has an ideas.

Just in case anyone turns up this thread in a search:

I've tried just about everything I can think of - I think the O2 router firmware doesn't support WDS 100% following some comments found on forums elsewhere. Looks like the original speedtouch (manifacture) firmware is more reliable but can't find a way to revert to it. I'd use powerline adaptors but house was two flats at one time and has separate fuse boxes for the two floors (which I want to bridge). Guess I'm stuck with a cable through the house (or run a third unit -an extra tenda?)

    Re: WDS setup

Even if you get kit that supports WDS you're usually restricted to WEP which is insecure. Run that cable, you'll be a lot happier.

    Re: WDS setup

I have the o2 router and an old belkin thing running WDS fine at the moment. The belkin didn't support it though so I flashed it with DD-WRT. It might just be that the tenda and the o2 router don't like each other - if the tenda has no other use you could try flashing DD-WRT onto it.
    My setup is o2 router->-(wireless)->-belkin->-(cable)->-desktop.
