Which cable is used for the modem (ADSL)

So basically i'm in need of moving the router upstairs but instead of using extensions and such i want a solid cable from the box to the modem, so 30 meters should do

Only problem is......i dont know what the cable is refered to! is it this?

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/30m-C...nder-Carpet%29

    or this?

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/30m-C...ble-10-100-GbE

    Could someone enlighten me thanks!

If you're connecting the modem to a router then either of those, but I think you need RJ11 with a phone connector if you want to connect the modem to the BT box.

Sorry i should be more clear,

The router has a built in modem, the cable is connecting from the router directly to the bt socket, i thought it might be called a RJ11 but i couldn't find it on scan

You will need something like this then:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/5m-IC...-RJ11-Male-N30

But if you are having a cable go from one floor to another it might be better to have a ethernet modem connected to the router via cat5 for lower latency.

I've thought about that but ive been unsure which would be better! are you 100% sure it would be better for me to use the Cat5 cable?

Re: Which cable is used for the modem (ADSL)

It would be better to leave your router by the phone line (master socket) an ethernet from the router to a switch upstairs. Poor quality extension cable (fitting) can ruin your ADSL speeds. You can extend it using cat 5 have the cable is much thicker and there is no advantage over a single twisted pair.

I did mean cat 5e and cat 5 if its just for phone. cat 6 has no advantages over cat 5e from a networking point of view it is however less flexible harder to fit and damages more easily.

Alternatively, grab a set of powerline adaptors and sod the hassle. Just remember to read the manual ahem

I think cableuniverse do flat cat5e (at least I've bought it from them in the past) makes it much easier to fit.

    EDIT: Here you go Cat5e Low Profile Ethernet Cable - 30 Metres - £12.78 + £1.99 P&P
