    Plus Net?

    Anyone used Plus Net recently?

I'm looking for a BB and calls package, the exchange I'll be connecting to is ADSLMax only, no LLU and no ADSL2+. Fortunately I am really close to the exchange and it is estimating 7mbit (which will be awesome if the exchange does ever get upgraded!).

I've looked at the more expensive package with the higher cap and full anytime calls package and it comes out at about £35/month which is pretty good I think.

    Any comments?

    Re: Plus Net?

I used to use them ages ago when they were a really decent ISP for a techy, and my folks are still with them. I jumped from them when they started messing around with their Ellacoya kit, but their service in terms of broadband connectivity is still (as far as I can tell, my folks are pretty happy and have now migrated their phone to them too) pretty decent. I just wouldn't rely on them for email, DNS and a lot of the other stuff that I'd call "value added". Also obviously be aware that they're now owned by BT, so if you have any serious problems with BT they're likely to be replicated at Plusnet.

    Re: Plus Net?

I moved my parents over to Plusnet ~6 months ago now and they've had no issues (that they've voiced to me anyway), I've used it a few times when I'm over there and the connection seems stable and reasonably quick.

    Re: Plus Net?

    This is good to know.

I never use ISPs for email and DNS is easy to change and use another. I don't really have a problem with BT, I was with them when ADSL first launched and didn't have a problem, I only moved away from them when I wanted something more specialist and went with Nildram when they were independent.

No horror stories so far which is encouraging

    Exactly the same as mikemikemi.

Unbelievably cheap, tech support surprisingly good. No mod cons, but then I wasn't expecting any. Would happily use them myself if I didn't want 24Mb connection or whatever.

    Re: Plus Net?

I'm using them now and have been for about 5 years. They are the best value as we are in a no competition area (?). They are owned by BT now but they have not changed it much when they took over. Service has been fine and the call centre is in the UK.

We moved onto a 10gb limit package now from a five that we started on. The offpeaks times are awful now; midnight to 8am but generally happy with it even though my steam downloads have to start in the dead of night! Won't effect you on the higher package. Would definately use again.

    Re: Plus Net?

Use them here on the 'Pro' package, and signed up the in-laws as well. Good service, good tech support, and cheap.
I'm about 300m from my exchange and get +7Mbs.

    Re: Plus Net?

I was with Plusnet a while back and they werent too bad, my mum and my sister have been with them recently and the speeds again werent too bad,

They both cancelled last year, and they were still being charged 3 months after they cancelled the service the only reason they didnt notice this before is because they changed the payment ID (for example when they had the service it was clearly labeled PLUSNET and once it was cancelled it just went to a series of numbers... hmmm ), bit dodgy if you ask me for them both to have the same issue, took about further 3 months to get there money back also.

So for that reason i would never recommend them again.

Don't think so. Tiscali bought Pipex, Tiscali is currently up for sale.

    Re: Plus Net?

currently with plusnet, and can't fault them really, although the one time I had to call their support line the bloke I spoke to was a bit script happy (determined to force me to test everything five times over when I could see clearly on my router that the line was syncing but I wasn't getting an IP address assigned). When I managed to get him off script, though, it took very little time for him to confirm they had a known issue in my area that they were working to resolve. Otherwise the services has been pretty solid and I get very good download speeds at quite time (600 - 700 KB/s, generally)

    Re: Plus Net?

I'd say I've had a love / hate relationship with them...but I think most of those frustrations were due to essentially being on a crappy BT line, and there incompetence to fix problems. Once in the past Plus.net really dragged their feet when it came to some issues, and made us go through all this unnecessary procedures.

But recently they pulled their finger out, and sorted alot of on going, long term issues we've had in general. Annoying thing is, I think it all could of been sorted out alot quicker in the first place.

I'm still on a old contract (21.99?) which has a limit for peak usage (if you start reaching it, they throttle you at peak times) but off peak is all go and no limits.

    aahhhhh they're ok.
