    Vigor 2800VG Logging

    Hi,

Can anyone with a Vigor 2800VG help me out here (the info I've found online is pretty sparse)? I've got a friend who's Dad has bought a 2800VG. He has apparently enabled a logging feature so he can see what users are browsing to and also a 'screen viewer' that lets him view the user's screens.

Does anyone have any info on the logging feature, and a suggested way to bypass it? (I'm thinking if it's only logging HTTP traffic it should be pretty simple to just use something like TOR that works at the TCP level right?)

Also, anyone know anything about this mysterious 'screen viewer'? My friend claims it is a feature of the router, and no extra software has been installed on his router. I'm guessing this may be BS, but I'd like to check. If it turns out it is true, anyone know how to bypass it? (I don't have the faintest clue how it would work, short of using some sort of malware, so I don't have any idea on how to bypass it)

    Thanks

The router has no screen viewing capability, though that doesn't mean he hasn't installed something like VNC on the machines on the LAN.

I guess the question is... what exactly is your friend trying to hide from his dad?

stop looking at pr0n and get your home work done! erm I mean tell your friend to do that.

Serious though, it has been put on for a reason, the internet is a privilege not a right.

    Thanks for the answers guys.
Jay. His Dad does get a bit OTT though - me and him were out of the house, come back and the internet has broken (various routers were having their signal blocked, never did find out what was the problem/what was blocking the signal), but of course it must have been me or him that did it.

But his dad pays for it so he could just turn it off. I would say that would be a bit ott but try and get around the blocks and he may think he has no other option.

all Drayteks have a syslog feature which will allow you to see what is occuring on the router (NAT sessions, Firewall rules and lots of other stuff) via the syslog software, but i know for a fact there is no screen viewer on the router that could let him see what is going on the actual monitor on the machine.

Unless there was the use of VNC on the machine (which would be plainly obvious) I can't think there would be another method of "Screen viewing"

Unless he is then looking at the syslog and going the pages that have been logged - he must have plenty of time on his hands though as every http transaction is logged -sohuge log files - even with something like logrotate on the host machine capturing the logged info.
