    Business Broadband (550+ users)...

    All,
I manage a site of around 550 users; For connection to our WAN and internet access we use a dedicated 8MB AVPN circuit provided by AT&T (this links us to the corporate MPLS cloud).

Anyway, to cut a long story short, quite often the circuit gets saturated with proxy traffic meaning that other business systems slow down. No matter how often we try and educate people to be careful with their usage, we still have problems...

Now to try and combat these issues, we are going to pilot routing all proxy/internet traffic over a separate line. This would mean minimal slow down on business systems and could act as resilience in case the main circuit fails.

This leads me to the question: who supplies decent business broadband?

The only two we've looked at for the moment is Virgin & Vodafone (obviously BT & AT&T are also candidates).

    Anyway thanks for any suggestions!

    Leon

P.S We do have QoS in place, but it seems to have difficulty distinguishing between proxy/internet traffic and other web based business critical systems!

I think your idea is the best way to go, we never use our MPLS for internet use for this exact reason.

Surprising - it should be extremely easy.

Easynet are worth a look. Their UK network went belly up for a few hours a couple of weeks ago but that's the only downtime I can think of in the 7 years we've had a LES100 with them

We mainly use BT for our lines (over 200 MPLS lines) and several internet connections however we are in the process of moving to the new 21cn circuits. Not cheap but should be able to provide decent bandwidth for the next couple of years.

We have had some issues with a lot of maintenance work over the last couple of weeks, which has meant loss of connections overnight across some of our sites.
