Reasons to have a Gigabit LAN router....

    .... grrrr...

a fair while ago I purchased a new router (Draytek) and while I loved it's broadband and it's firewall, i was agreived that it had only ONE Gb lan socket.. the other 3 were 10/100 sockets.

But I didn't fret too much cos in daily use it never touched the sides anyway.

I plug the server into the gig plug and the 3 pc's into the others.

But... running my Windows Home Server right now, backing up my full PC and waiting to play CoD W@W... I hit Contrl Alt Del for a shufty at the networking...

    and it's maxed me out.

    gutted....

I AM bandwidth restricted... gutted gutted gutted

Wonder how much faster it would be done if both ports on the rouer were giga bit jobbo's?

It's not really that big a deal, surely?

A 5-port gigabit switch doesn't cost much at all, certainly not compared to what you'd have paid to get a similar calibre router with all gigabit ports.

Re: Reasons to have a Gigabit LAN router....

gigabit networks are only pointless if all the users in the household connect to the internet individually and no-one shares files. The minute you decide you want to start sharing, there becomes a point... still not always necessary though.
