    o2 vs be

after deciding to get my old man the basic sky package for christmas with the intention of using the £20 i currently pay to be for internet for the be unlimited package to pay for the base sky package with inc broadband.

however... after checking the sky site and seeing that there broadband package as part of the sky tv bundle is poo.....and net even available in my area they want to charge me an extra £17 for sky connect which is worse than my current provider... no ta!

so my only option is to move to a cheaper package / provider.
i know that o2 and be use the same network / infastructure? any have an o2 mobile so should qualify for there reduced rate which would make the £20ish i currently pay become more like £12 for the same middle package.

few questions though if any one can help
do o2 let you change your line settings like be do? ie gaming mode, optmise for reliability, speed or standard?

is there any real difference between the be value and be unlimited packages bar the speed cap of 8 or 12 meg (website is confusing about this page title says 8 but page info said 12) if so my line seems to average about 5meg so downgrading to value maye be an option if there are no other cuts bar the download speed which i wont really be loosing

if any one can offer advice or info would be appreciated

No, O2 don't let you change the profile of the line. Only Be* does this.

Because you have an O2 mobile, I'd highly recommend you go with O2.

As for the difference between Be* Value and Be* Unlimited. It depends on your line. If you line can't handle more than 12 meg, then go for Be* Value (or the O2 opposite package).

I was with O2 (as a mobile customer as well), fine until they decided the 'unlimited' useage i got with my deal became a 40, then 20, then apparently 10gb cap which was soon blown out of the water as it was over the school holidays and i had two teenage boys at home using the 'net/online gaming (Xbox Live and PS3 and PC). Took them half an hour from the first email i got warning me to the final email saying they were kicking me off...great. I assume if you've been offered Sky Connect, like me you can't get an LLU deal?.

aye that level of cap would be unusable for me as while not so much lately but on occasion i do hammer my download which to my knowledge be have never harrased anyone about
the base sky one is even worse around 2 gig i think, the last bad company 2 update was more than that

my exchange is llu'd but for some reason sky dont cover it

Go for O2, profile adjustment shouldn't really be a large factor in deciding.

    Re: o2 vs be

I'm an o2 mobile customer on their 8mb package for £7.50 a month.
Had a very positive experience - no issues at all and haven't had any experience of the cap described by jon bda, being extremely confident that I have exceeded 10gb per month...
I rate o2 highly so far

    little update

raised a ticket with be saying that i was considering moving to either sky or o2.
few hours later got a phone call from one of their call center reps saying that he could offer me the value package for 11.50 per month with the first month for free, would be put on a new 12month contract though.

said i would think it over and call back tomorrow
things that put me off are the dynamic ip, while my ip with them at the minute is dynamic it is sticky and i dont think it has ever changed which is good seeing as my line does drop now and again being around 2 mile maybe slightly more from the exchange, when gaming this means i can just wait till the line resyncs and carry on rather than being dropped from the server and loosing my stats.

think i might go for it providing there are no other changes in service or contention between the packages

I think be will give you a static ip for free if you ask nicely. I saw something about it on their forums and rang them and got they switched it on there-and-then (at about 2:30am on a sunday morning IIRC!).

It's what makes me not want to switch provider. 24/7 support that actually do stuff when you call them!

Try to get haggle a better discount, if you can. I got them down to £10/month with 3 months free when I quoted I could get the same if I joined O2. Said that I wanted to stay with Be due to the excellent service, so they made a good offer.

After the 12 month contract ran out, I jumped ship for O2 (£7.50/month, £50 quidco cashback, 3 months free). Switchover was fine as they're the same company, everything hunky dory.

    Re: o2 vs be

I am on O2 and will probably be moving over to Be Pro only so I can get a few static public IPs, if O2 did this I would never think about moving. O2 have been and still are fantastic, I have had 1 issue in 2 years and that was due to a cable being cut by workmen.

They even called me back to tell me it was fixed and to make sure everything was ok and called again a few days later to ask me if it was ok to close the ticket and if I had anything I would like to be added to the notes for future reference.

    This Month

    Total Sent 2.7G
    Total Received 20.8G

    This Year

    Total Sent 33.3G
    Total Received 255.2G

That Averages out at 24GB a month (up and down combined)

    Re: o2 vs be

they maile dme back today offering me 6 months on value at half price then back to the regular price which is really the same as their offer of 11.50 per month with one month free on value.

strongly considering o2 now if the cashback is still on for them
