    Network Drive for WDTV Live

I have the latest iteration of the WDTV and I have it connected to my Linksys router running tomato firmware. So the WDTV gets all of its content off of my PC which means the whole machine must be on for me to watch content on my TV.

I assume I could buy a network drive and I could put new content on it at any time and turn off my PC, then the WDTV could read it and play all of the content?

I have thought about an external hard drive but I cant be bothered to keep ferrying the drive between TV and PC.

Are network drives as simple as they seem in my head, i.e. plug in + turn on + share folders = fully working network drive?

I was looking at buying a Western Digital My Book World Edition as I would have thought that the two WD devices would work easily together. Any other drives people would recommend over that?

    Thanks guys.

Re: Network Drive for WDTV Live

I have been down exactly this path, for my Western Dig TV Live, and have now a very happy working solution with my Synology DS410J (Network Attached Storage).
My NAS, my desktop PC and my Western Dig can all communicate via a switch, and the desktop can happily be powered off, leaving the Western Dig to stream data from the NAS.
