Is dnla the same as upnp

Noob question no doubt. But I am looking at getting my first nas box and have seen a dlink one that is good value but only has upnp. My desire hd phone supports dnla and more modern internet tvs and bluray players support dnla too. will a dnla device work with a upnp device?

I think dlna is more for Video / Auto streaming. uPnP is really for device descovery on the network although I think overall uPnP is a better solution as its not as restricted.

I think you'll be OK but I'm not certain. If you haven't already, search the forum or look for some reviews of NAS boxes, some cheap ones perform very poorly.

Re: Is dnla the same as upnp

DLNA needs UPNP to work (actualy it needs UPNP AV) DLNA is only a set of guidelines for device interoperability where as UPNP is a ratified standard.
