    Home office broadband solutions

It's been a while since I last posted on here; it's grown a little since I was last around!!

I'm currently faced with a problem that I'm hoping the HEXUS readership might be able to assist me with. I'm in the armed forces and therefore have to live pretty much where I'm told to; our next residence is outside Huntingdon and BT are quoting max line speeds of 1Mb/s due to us being 5.6km from our local exchange. My wife should be working from home but must have line speeds of 2Mb/s or more due to her company using a Citrix based system for everything including VoIP.

Are there any options available to us other than renting an office somewhere with better Internet access?

    I have considered the following:

Satellite broadband - bandwidth high enough but possible problems with latency? Have found a firm online that claims to offer "business broadband" that claims to potentially offer a solution.

Bonded broadband - Caroline's firm has apparently attempted this before but was unsuccessful. Circumstances of the other trial unknown though.

ISDN 30 - Is it possible to bond all 30 channels on a BT top spec ISDN line. Are we likely to have availability problems?

We've tried Virgin in case they had cable outside the property, but the speeds they offered were suspiciously similar to BT's so guessing that they were just attempting to resell the BT service!

    Any suggestions?

Having noticed that ISDN prices are per channel and not per bunch of channels, that option might be out of the question due to financial constraints!

    Re: Home office broadband solutions

It is possible to get a second phone line installed, run ADSL on both, and bond the two together to get double speed. (And double reliability). Obviously it will not be cheap, as you will need to pay two lots of BT line rental, you will need an ISP that supports that service (forget the cheap ones), and you will need a fancy ADSL modem/router that will handle a bonded connection. (That will probably be arround £150 for a Draytek one).

One ISP that I know supports the service is Andrews and Arnold. They quote around £50/month for a bonded service. They are expensive, but you get what you pay for, and they do have a good reputation for reliable quality service. I have never used them personally.
