    Best 802.11g laptop card?

I've mainly been using a Netgear WG511 (pc card) but have noticed significant problems with the wireless connection e.g. loss of connection and variable reported signal strength.

I've noticed this problem with more than one card/laptop.

Is there another card that you would consider to be better?

I was under the opinion that there are only a handful of manufacturers (around 2-3) of the hardware and each company customises the card firmware and the software, I may be wrong however?

    Comments?

Yes and no ... a lot of reference hardware is tweaked and rebranded across the industry in general. Think of 'Made by ATI' vs Asus etc, they are identical hardware just tweaked to suit the OEM's requirments eg faster clock rates, better ram or in asus' case normally a PCB layout change .... It's often better to buy in existing hardware and re-brand/debrand it than research/produce your own.

Compaq used to be swines for doing this!

if belkin make one (i'm not sure, never needed a card, always had it inbuilt) then its likely to be quality stuff, as is netgear, i've had loads of networking stuff from both company's, its been easy to set up, and just works

which wifi card & antenna is best

We do alot of camping. Most campgrounds now have free WiFi. I currently have a Linksys WPC54G v.2 card. The range at most places is very weak. I'm considering purchasing a Buffalo Air Station High Power WLI-CB-G54HP. That way I could add an external antenna for greater range. I was thinking about the Super Cantenna by Wireless Gardens. But the EtherDesigns cAntenna sounds like a more durable product.

    Any suggestions or thoughts?
