    recommend a router?

Right well im getting fed up with this Negear wgt624v3 router as the wireless isnt that great(doesnt go far!) and the compatibly with games is terrible, over 50% of my games have problems with this router with ports being blocked and people not being able to join and vice versa but whenever i take it out i can join/host no problem, ive tried everything i can think of by forwarding every port needed for each game and setting dmz for my pc and turnig off every security feature available but still cant bypass it so im giving up.

This is the criteria it needs to fit:

Doesnt block games or works flawlessly if i open ports
    Reliable
    Good wireless range/speed
    Atleast 4 ports
    Costs <£35

Any suggestions or is it impossible to get something that cheap?

I suppose Netgear DG834GT, I picked a reflashed one for about £20 on Ebay.

Ticks all the boxes except perhaps the wireless, its just standard single aerial, but you can swap the aerial for a bigger one.

    Re: recommend a router?

Have a look at the Linksys E1000 for £35 here and the Buffalo G300NV2 for £21 here.

I’ve installed both these routers for friends months ago and have never had to go back to fix their internet since. The wireless on these are bound to be better than the WGT624 v3 which I've personally have pulled my hair out over.

An added advantage of the two routers I recommended, you can install Linux firmwares on them e.g. DD-WRT or Tomato if you’re after a little bit more functionality.

That's an ADSL router, it doesn't have an ethernet WAN port which "cable" routers have, the WGT624 v3 has one for example.

    Re: recommend a router?

sorry should i mentioned it is for virgin aka cable .

Ill have a look at those two, buffalo is probably the better option as cheaper is better unless it sucks lol.

edit: had a look, cant seem to find anything(good) around my price range but that buffalo router seems just amazing at the price... customer reviews are good but i cant seem to find any pro/mag reviews, any chance you know somewhere that has reviewed it?.

I still cant believe its £20... even better is the fact it can also be used as a range extender so i could buy another one later on!.

    Re: recommend a router?

I can’t find any reviews of the G300NV2 myself; I don’t think there are any, it’s a low end router after all. Having said that; it's brilliant value for the features you get, many of which you won’t find on other low end routers for the same price.

    Re: recommend a router?

I've got the buffalo whr-hp-g54 which i've had for over 4 years now and it's still going strong.

I upgraded the ariel to get that bit more distance out of it but it's the best that can be hoped for on wireless g

Some of the later versions come with DD-WRT on allready
