    Powerline

Sort of a double posting to go alongside my Cat5e post,

Is 200mbps powerline good for a old house (Victorian) with rewired recently (5 years ago) with two exchange board/circuit boards (or what ever they are called)?

Will there be problems going from one loop i.e. downstairs, to second loop i.e. upstairs?

What speed can one expect i.e. compared to wireless/wired on a 10mg VM connection (we get 9.6mb)

What is the likely throughout rate of these http://www.ebuyer.com/product/251719

and can anyone see if they actually use gigabit connectors in the device (as obviously to get 1000 they should be but you never know) as I can't see any mention.

    Re: Powerline

Can't comment on all your questions but powerline networking will only work on one loop so you won't be able to put a plug in upstairs to connect with one downstairs.

Also, can you clarify what you mean by comparing speeds with your VM connection. I take it that's your broadband which will be linked to a router of some sort. It will be the router that determines the speed from the broadband out to your home network. I would expect the powerline adapters to cope admirably with a 10Mbit broadband connection.

I would take eBuyers 1000Mbit claims with a pinch of salt. I have 200Mb powerline adapters and they never even touch a 200Mbit transfer speed.
