    NetGear Ready?

hi i am thinking of getting this (NetGear ReadyNAS Duo RND2120) couple of questions really, are they easy to set up and do you have to stick to the specified drives on there website? i know they list them for a reason but is it a warranty requirement?
also if it says sata 300 i take it a 1tb 6gb drive will be a waste of time?

    thanks

    Re: NetGear Ready?

I can't say for sure, but using drives that aren't on the list should not affect the warranty, it's just that you might have compatibility or reliability problems with drives not on the list.

Buying drives specifically for their 6GB connections would be a waste of money in this case. The only benefit would be that if they were to be moved to a newer unit with SATA 6GB then you might see an improvement, but I doubt it some how.

    Re: NetGear Ready?

theres a huge list of drives that do and do not work on the WNDR3700 forum i use, so check out the netgear forums to see whats confirmed as working.

end of the day its just drives they have had and tested.

    Re: NetGear Ready?

as I understand it the maximum is 2TB (for each drive).

as everyone else says the disk interface will not run faster, just because you put faster disks in.

they're neat and simple units I have tried other NAS before & these are now the ones I stick to.

the HP servers are good alternatives especially if on special offer, but markedly larger and warmer
