    VM Tivo

Hi, I've ordered a Tivo to be installed tomorrow, and was wondering what HD signal it output? Is it 1080p, or 1080i like the V+ box? Also, does it carry hi-def audio over HDMI, or will I have to plug in the optical to my amp?

    Re: VM Tivo

I would expect it to be 1080i as no provider can stream 1080p yet.

    Re: VM Tivo

I hope it is better than the V+ box as it keeps getting the audio out of sync with the video using HD through an external amp

VM have known about it for ages but haven't fixed it yet.

    Re: VM Tivo

Well, it's in and it does do 1080p but only passthrough. It will upscale to 1080i though. Not sure there's anything that transmits in 1080p but maybe downloaded films will be at that definition...

I didn't like some of the old V boxes, but found the new Cisco range (the hd and the tivo) to be really good/reliable in comparison.

I had this and thought it was my amp, then discovered it only happened on certain channels. An adjustment on the amp of the A/V sync setting sorted it out though...

    Re: VM Tivo

Should support 1080p but will only output 1080i as thats what is broadcast.

It /should/ also be miles better than any other NTL/Virgin/Cable box has been in the past - if it's a real Tivo.

My old Tivo box was lightyears ahead of even the next best (Sky+HD) in terms of the software - very reliable, very simple to use, and the suggestions feature especially worked like a charm. For example if a series link broke due to bad data from the channel provider - the box would still work out that I wanted to watch eg Star Trek and record it for me anyway. Or I would forget (or not know) about a new film that was in the right genre, and the box would again just record it for me anyway.

I really hope for a few things here..1) that Virgin don't have Tivo locked into a long term exclusivity contract and 2) That the box is a success so that Tivo will consider launching a provider free version again the UK. I'd replace my SkyHD box in a second with a Tivo if I could!

So good luck with it, the reviews I have read have been positive and I expect it to be the best Cable box yet..now if only we could convince Virgin to get some decent customer service, pay for all the HD channels that Sky offer and then finally lay cable in my street!

    Re: VM Tivo

It would appear that it is a proper Tivo - with VM's colours painted over the top. When the engineer came to install, he said the box comes blank, and connects to the USA for the Tivo firmware/software, then to VM for the regional info and/or colour scheme.
