    My Router keeps crashing!

Hi I have a virgin 50 meg internet connection which i have had for a long time now. I have had several routers and i still have them all.

the main routers i have tried are the dlink dir 614 (free from virgin) Belkin N router (with lasrge digital screen) and a TP Link 54g router.

My average download is about 150Gb a month and upload is 40Gb a month.

About once every 24-48 hours i need to either power cycle my router or log in to it and force a reboot. there is no explanation to this and after the reboot it works fine. does any one know why it is doing this or does any one have a router with the 50 meg internet that doesnt have to do this?

    Thanks

I use D-link DIR 655 with VM 50Mb and never have to power cycle it. Now the cable modem that's a different story

Did you buy that or was it a gift from VM?

Virgin router sucks! I had the same issues and no good signal strength. Replace quickly.

Bought it. The 615 they gave me is a cupboard somewhere.

The superhub is a POS unfortunately. Replace it or request the beta firmware and put it in bridged mode and then use any generic router with it.

    Re: My Router keeps crashing!

I'd like to vouch for the dir 655 too, I also have VM 50Mb an have never had any issues with regard to router or modem.

    It's £73 at scan:

If money allows it's worth looking into.

    Re: My Router keeps crashing!

Try flipping the router over and using it upside down.

A lot of routers have holes or slots in the bottom for airflow but none on the top so the heat cannot escape. I found doing this keeps the hardware running longer and keeps my ADSL connection up for longer as well.

    Re: My Router keeps crashing!

love the way people didnt actually read the original post and jumped on the bandwagon there.

At no point does Chavo state that he has a superhub and in fact specifies the routers he has had, and also points out he doesnt use the VM router (probably a good thing for the amount of traffic he is shifting)

Good advice from Lee, and I agree with Blueball, the higher end Dlinks or Linksys routers are probably your best bet
