3G Pay As You Go Internet Access

I'm getting internet installed by Sky at a new house in a short while, and they've said that it'll take 2 weeks after the line installation to get broadband access, so I was considering some type of 3G access for the interim.

A lot of it is done per month, whether contract or pay as you go, but I was hoping for something less strict than that so I can top it up and possibly just slowly use it up over the next few months as and when required (perhaps with my netbook also, whilst out and about).

Does anybody have any experience of them?

    Hello snootyjim,

the only 3g that does that is the older sims from vodaphone. sometimes the older ones appear on ebay. you only get 1gb for £15 but it lasts until you use it.

the newer vodaphone dongles and other dongles you have to use up the credit within a certain time else its gone. the new vodaphone pay as you go is £15 for 3gb use within 30days or its gone.

i feel its wrong that pay as a go means pay and if dont use its gone. how is it any different than filling up your car with petrol and morrisons coming round my house and emptying my tank if i dont use it within a cetain time? just because they can take the credit away doesnt mean they should.

The vodaphone one was the only option for truly infrequent use. Another option would be a 3 payg data sim that is loaded with 3 Gb of data with a 3 month expiry, costs £21.

Aside from the tariffs I was surprised how slow my recently bought 3G dongle from O2 was. I think there's a lot of hype about 3G as a broadband replacement, but it's just not there yet.

Re: 3G Pay As You Go Internet Access

I have a T-Mobile PAYG stick as a backup connection (funnily enough VM has been on 24/7 since I bought it xD). It was £29.99 total, including a £10 topup - IIRC it's £2 daily but it's cheaper if you buy weekly or whatever. I think this is what's available now, same stick but 3 months unlimited* browsing to get you going. http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/mobil...lack-3-months/

Edit: Oh they do pass web traffic through a proxy to compress images down by default, but you can disable it or just use https if it's a problem.
