    Talk Talk Lie

My little town has recently been bombarded by sales calls from TT promising that they have installed new kit in our local exchange and if we transfer to them we could double our speeds.
    However....
I can find no evidence that our exchange is even unbundled, (Samknows, BT etc) never mind that new kit has been installed already. Plusnet tell me that TT have a programme of 'bombing' towns like ours in order to get new accounts. The reality is, they can't actually provide the services they're selling.

Anyone know who I can complain to ?

    Sounds dodgy to me too.

OFCOM http://consumers.ofcom.org.uk/tell-us/ or Consumer Direct http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Governme...ghts/index.htm is who you want.

    Re: Talk Talk Lie

On the other hand, the data Samknowns is working from could be out of date; they don't have my exchange's FTTC status, for instance, whereas BT have specified an activation date.

We had a spate of TT canvassing a few years back, promising exactly the same. Even if they set up shop next door, I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

    Re: Talk Talk Lie

We had a door-to-door TT saleswoman come & say "Broadband is now free in your area, just sign here". Probably a panic reaction to the new Infinity cabinet that just went live

In the process of moving from them. They are a complete waste of time when it comes to trying to get any answers about anything.

    Re: Talk Talk Lie

Check this reply. Who regulates ISPs then ?

    Dear Mr Phage
Thank you for your web form of 6 September 2011.

I understand the concern about TalkTalk trying to mis-sell their broadband service to people in your town. Ofcom is committed to tackling mis-selling, which includes a range of sales and marketing activities causing consumers distress or financial harm.

While Ofcom regulations only cover sales of fixed-line and mobile services, we are interested to read about the experiences consumers have regarding broadband mis-selling. If we identify a significant problem in this area we will consider taking action.

Thank you for informing Ofcom about your experience. Please be assured it has been formally recorded here.

    Yours sincerely

    Re: Talk Talk Lie

Silly me thinking the "Independent regulator and competition authority
for the UK communications industries." Would regulate the country's largest communications system. What am I like?

    They're 'self-regulated' looking into a it a bit more. http://www.ispa.org.uk/

    Yay lobbyist's.

This is the last progress toward proper regulation I could find with a quick google. http://www.zdnet.co.uk/news/security...uiry-39643853/

Amazed it doesn't come under mis-selling though.

EDIT: try Consumer Direct or OFT they must abide by the same rules as every other business even if OFCOM themselves can only tell them off.

Have they put anything in writing, or just over the phone?
If there's hard copy you can try the Advertising Standards Authority as well.

    Re: Talk Talk Lie

Even if they did have all the kit they claim, would it actually make any difference to their service? Having spent some time speaking to their call centre in goodness knows where on behalf of a friend and getting nowhere, and listening to the seemingly endless woes of two sets of relatives both having speed, throttling and shaping issues, I seriously doubt TTs ability to deliver, period.
