Web address owner info - blanking

    Hi all,

no doubt a newbie question - how does one make the information when you do a whois do this:

    Domain Name:
    xxx.co.uk

    Registrant:
    xxxx

    Registrant's Address:

THE REGISTRANT IS AN INDIVIDUAL WHO HAS ELECTED TO
HAVE THEIR ADDRESS OMITTED FROM THE WHOIS DATABASE

    Registrant's Agent:
Fasthosts Internet Limited [Tag = FASTHOSTS]
    URL: http://www.fasthosts.co.uk

The domain name and person's name I have taken out. It's the address I'm interested in blanking on my domain...

    Any ideas?
    Well Hello!

It's an opt-out when you register the domain iirc, try contacting the place you registered the domain from and asking..

I thought Nominet had made this compulsory?

It was my understanding that you cannot get out of this, but I could be wrong, I am just glad my host lets me sign a contract which states I own the domain but they have thier details on the domain registrar....

Huh, apparently you can opt out for .uk domains, but not .com!

yeah thats right, the .com are under US registrar and their policy is a bastage, seems the only way to avoid it is to go through and intermediatry

For Nominet registered domains (.co.uk .org.uk .me.uk etc) you are entitled to the opt-out option (as long as your not trading as a business under the domain). The registar can do this for you if you get in touch with them, or alternatively you can do it online at: http://www.nominet.org.uk/replyform if you have the security code which gets sent to you a couple of months after registering the domain.

Opt out is only available for domains not registered by a business. Private individuals can opt-out.
