VirginMedia Problems - Pages not loading

Is anyone else on Virgin getting problems with pages not loading? Since this morning I've had issues with some pages refusing to load at all, and others are taking a long time to come up. So far I've reset the modem, checked using OpenDNS and Virgin's DNS and checked that my proxy settings are set to auto-detect and no joy.

Ironically, one of the sites that's affected is Virgin's own website, so I can't even check on there to see if it's a problem for other people, but the Google cache does indicate this isn't the first time this has happened.

Any advice on what I can practically do, or is it a case of just waiting for it to be resolved their end?

Yes - over the whole weekend. The most mysterious thing - I can see many sites without any problems but I get no access at all to major sites such as wikipedia. Unfortunately includes my own site.

There is a service announcement on Virgin support saying some customers are having trouble accessing certain sites and they are working on it. Whatever it is, they are taking very long to fix it. It must be some sort of DNS problem? Any ideas, anyone?

I expect its a MTU problem on one of their systems this can have the experience of small things working, connections being ok then failing when large amounts of data are transfered. You may be able to get around it by setting the MTU of your computer smaller value (however if you have multiple things on your local network you will probably need do this on all of them, but they should be ok) or better if you have a proper router setting the maximum message size to 1452 or less.

Yeah, it's been pretty funny here too (Bristol), certainly since yesterday. Some sites are fine, some are appalling. Wikipedia seems to be inaccessible, Virgin Media site is very slow.

Re: VirginMedia Problems - Pages not loading

There is a known issue being worked on. The fault reference is F001770093 if anyone is interested. Currently flagged to be fixed Tuesday morning.

I couldn't do any multiplayer gaming last night as a result of this. Then this morning i find I have no broadband at all. My patience is being very very sorely tested at the moment.

Nothing to report on here although since updating to R30 on the Superhub my WiFi keeps dropping and randomly re-appearing but nothing can connect to it despite numerous reboots.

advanced settings in hub mate, wireless settings, change the channel to 6 or 11, should give you a 2nd channel, and should fix any wireless dropouts, if this doesnt fix it then you need a new hub i'm afraid, need to call in.

As far as the outage goes, the fault has been found, part replaced and is being monitored atm, should be fixed (fingers crossed)

I don't know. It isn't rocket science - its even about providing a perfectly working cable service. Its about providing good customer service. Why they don't get this I don't know. Virgin was NTL - they are the same company, just with a different name. NTL were terrible as well.

For me, I've had rock solid cable reliability for years - 5x9s uptime, full bandwidth all times of day, low pings. Then just recently, over the last couple of months, its all gone to crap.

We had NTL/Virgin up North and the service was great, we had the odd problems but Tech Support always fixed it by refreshing/resetting the connection from their end.

Moved down South and it's crap. Had more problems with the Internet then in the 10+ years we had it up North.
