    Wireless networking

Before you tell me to goto google for answers, id much rather listen to the advice of the wonderfully knowledgable chaps of hexus.

    so, lets begin.

A friend of my dad wishes to network his 3 laptops and a home computer together. Currently (i believe he is on NTL bb) the internet connection goes into a modem, then into a 5-port hub, and then via cables to the various computers.

The OS' of the laptops is a lovely mix, win98, win2000 and winXP, i am unsure of the OS of the home computer...

anyhow, what kind of kit do they need, im guessing some kind of PCMCIA wireless adaptors, and perhaps a wireless router? Im completely new to wireless networking, so what should i advise him to get (ie what standard?) with the view to me setting it up and running smoothly ... As for cost, dont worry about that right now

Um...sounds like the computers are already networked if they all have cables going into a 5-port hub.

Note to self: read posts thoroughly before replying....

Having just installed a wireless system in my house I can thoroughly recommend the equipment from 3com. You could buy a 3com OfficeConnect 54g wireless access point which would plug into the hub and then 3com OfficeConnect wireless adapter cards in the computers. Not too expensive and pretty easy to install.
