There's an independent review site here:
    http://www.firewallguide.com/software.htm

Personal Computer World also did a round-up of 9 on 24th March:
    http://www.pcw.co.uk/Products/Software/1153293

    They look at:
Agnitum Outpost Personal Firewall Pro 2.0
    Computer Associates E-Trust EZ Firewall
ISS Black Ice PC Protection 3.6
    Kerio Personal Firewall 4
McAfee Personal Firewall Plus 2004 v5
Microsoft Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall
    Sygate Personal Firewall Standard
    Symantec Norton Internet Security 2004
Zone Labs Zone Alarm Pro 4.5

Both sites look at commercial and free personal firewalls, for the cost (and criticality) I would get the best one around rather than limit myself to free ones.

In the past I've used BlackICE Defender, Kerio, Utimaco Personal Firewall, Outpost, Zone Alarm (free) and Zone Alarm Pro (this is what I use currently, on v5.0).
The trend these days (rather unfortunately) seems to be packing more and more features into personal firewalls, bloating them and making them have a bigger resource cost.

PC Pro did a roundup of free firwalls a few months ago and came up with Kerio Personal Firewall as the best performer in that class. I have been using it or a few months and have to say it does a good job and allows a lot of customisation for a free product.
