Arew there any issues with using a PCI adsl modem versus a ethernet one. Obviously not including the loss of a pci slot.

I had a problem whereby my Audigy2 soundcard was hogging the PCI bus and causing my ADSL modem to randomly disconnect. Tried 3 different PCI modems and every combination of PCI slot but still had the problems.Originally Posted by grand_witch
Ended up getting an external router/firewall/modem and problem solved. More secure than an internal PCI modem as well.

PCI modems use CPU cycles, external modems dont. Plus if you get a modem/router you can network more machines to it.
If it was external i would presume it's USB. USB thiefs CPU CyclesOriginally Posted by Rabs

You are correct though a USB will use more CPU cycles than a PCI one, 56K External Modems were great (especially USR ones).
