Media device not found

Have recently bought an internet radio that works fine connecting wirelessly for radio stations. Problem is in the instruction booklet it explains how to setup Media Sharing and PlayMusic on the Internet radio for WMP 11 using XP. No mention of WMP 12 or Windows 7 which I have installed. Radio has latest software installed.
WMP 12 reports no media devices found. The fact the radio plays stations ok is proof enough that my network sees it all right.
I have enabled and disabled everything and am now at a loss to how to overcome this problem

Cannot get my laptop to recognise the radio either using WMP 11
