need some help with networking (XP <-> 2000)

I am having trouble with printer / file sharing between several computers on my home network. It's setup as follows:

    1. computer #1 (winxp)
    - connects to the internet via cable modem
    - has a laser printer

    2. computer #2 (winxp)
    - dads computer

    3. computer #3 (winxp)
    - my brothers computer

    4. computer #4 (win2k)
    - my computer

all 4 computers are connected to each other via a hub, and all can access the internet. computers #1, #4 have been freshly reformatted this week.

I would like to access files from computers #1,#2,#3 from mine (#4), but can't even "see" the other computers.

I don't really understand a lot about networking / workgroups / etc... I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

    hope it helps

ok the best way to check is 1st check the hub , make sure all the revelant light are up, normally green. ...if u see all the light are up then check for connectivity between the pc. one of the easiest ways to do this is to ping the relevant pc netbios name (name of the pc) . so for example id ur dads pc is called "bobby" for example , then bring up a command prompt and type "ping bobby" into the window. this will check connectivity. if you rceive a response then u know that the pc can see each other. So from one pc ping all the other pc, and go thru this from every pc to see if there is a common denimator. Another thing to be aware of is to see if the xp firewall is enabled (sp2 has this enabled by default) unsure if this has icmp blocked (ping protocol) . Also it might be acase of you having firewall sw on yourself , ie nortons internet ..... make sure the revelant ip of the pc are included in ur firewall so they can see each other... there are other stuff u can check .. but the ping test should help initially . Another option is power down and up the hub, sometimes this has helped in the past ... hubs can be unreliable especially cheap makes ...see how that goes
