    so... FTTC?

it seems as though BT (rubbish FUP, lying sillyness of a usuage policy on FTTC) are not the only ones to offer FTTC...

talktalk seems to have got it sorted now, i know how bad they are but if they can offer those speeds at those prices then im VERY interested! any one already signed up to FTTC or planning to?

As soon as BE release it, I'll be all over it.

Until then I CBA. I see no point in paying extra for phat bandwidth with a FUP/cap.

What's the specifics of the usage policy? I was under the impression that the 300G monthly cap on "option 2" accounts was replaced with unlimited non-torrent bandwidth w/ heavy traffic shaping from 4pm-midnight on torrents. "option 1" keeps its 40G cap.

Every other FTTC provider i've seen has had a monthly cap with very specific terms (i.e. capped & uncapped hours measured separately with separate cap) which is why I went with BT

I've been with BT Infinity on Option 2 for ages now and can't complain at all. The traffic shaping and torrent bandwith cap can be annoying at times but it's not something that bothers me.

I wouldn't touch Talk Talk with a hundred foot barge pole. They're cheap for a reason - they're the crappest of the crap!

    Re: so... FTTC?

Plenty of other providers to consider - I'm being fibred up with plusnet on Thursday. They have a 40G or 120G cap depending on which package you take, but completely unlimited bandwidth 12am - 8am (any big downloads, just schedule them overnight), and they're also currently conducting trials for 80mpbs fibre (yes,I will be trying to sign up once my line's installed ). I'll be hollering all over the forums once I'm connected, so if you keep your eyes open you'll know how I'm getting on

    Re: so... FTTC?

Gah - On my exchange there's BT (and their re-sellers like Plusnet) on ADSL, and Talk Talk on ADSL2.
    Rock, hard place.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

I should be on the 80/20 trial now. I will post up the speedtest results when i get home

Only thing i have quickly had to learn about the cap is that you do need to turn off any automatic updating. This first month for me is a trial to see how what bandwidth we use when not downloading at all during the day. One day for a fairly unexplained reason (im assuming windows update on 3-4PCs + steam on 2 of them) we downloaded 14GB!?!?!
Once i have a feel for what we use it should be easier to regulate our usage. Most days, not including overnight downloading, we are coming in betweeen 500MB and 2GB for general use, which gives us loads of headroom!

I'm waiting for BE* to provide it too. However, I'm bit concerned at the moment given their recent "core router issues" and coincidental saturated peering to akamai. I really hope it's not a sign of a degradation in service.

That's pretty much what my family uses - a mix of surfing and streaming with the occasional download. When we had the lodger we went over that a bit more often, but when it's just the 2 or 3 of us up to 1GB per day is pretty normal usage.

I was wondering that too. Post the Telefonica takeover, are we seeing a tightening of the purse strings which is now beginning to affect service?

    Re: so... FTTC?

ill have a check over BT once more, but when it was release very few people were happy basically stating all the power to download nothing with due to the "policy"

cant find a FUP or bandwidth allowance for TT... but yeah they really will always be a last resort!

edit: seems as though the FUP has actually been removed since april 2011. nice

how does one transfer over, mac code from orange then give to bt and thats it isnt it?

Think you need to cancel the Orange service and also have the MAC code - it's not implicit like when changing mobile phone provider.

Haven't noticed the traffic shaping, or it hasn't bothered me.. everything runs overnight anyway.
Last 2 month's traffic taken at router.

8 static IP addresses too. (I could have had faster upload, but upload speed not so important for me)
