Just saw the ad (again) for AOL Broadband harping on about 'Download limits'
I'm not familiar with limits on broadband - I know that some ISPs will give you a slap on the wrist if you download 24/7 for a loooong time
so what are they talking about ?![]()

Isnt it they just allow a certain amount of data through each month? And you have to pay for the extra?
Don't or didn't some providers cap the amount of data you can download in a period of time?

Yes, some ISP's said you could only download, for example 2Gb a month and they either wouldn't let you download any more until next month or they make you pay high prices for the extra download.
Hope that helps Skii mate
I think that's going to become more & more common - BT are going that way.
I personally would never go to a isp with a bandwidth cap. I do the 2gb download cap in a day :S
My ISP, Nildram have just got rid of their caps, although 150gb a month was more than enough anyway.

Hard and it is heavy dirty and mean
And what isp might that be?
NTL supposely has a 1 Gb cap ( i reckon Kez is on NTL too? edit: maybe not kingston communications?) & they have never bothered me although I'm sure that I've gone over it. I think it depends how often & how badly you go over whether they "have a word".
Yeh i dont think i would ever even look at a capped service. especially as speeds get quicker. glad ive chose Bulldog 2mb. although if they introduced a cap i spose theres not much i could do about it.
are NTL increasing their cap to go with the speed increases?

yeah ntl are the main culprits in the uk of this, and i hear rumours about others doing the same.
I know blueyonder dont do this and arent planning on it - hell, they upgraded me from 2mb to 3mb for free
Differnet comapnies can work different ways tho - some will stop you downloading after you hit your cap, others will charge you per meg for everything after the cap. My advise - if your capped - then change ISP's. if you cant change isps, get yourself a download monitor and keep an eye on how much you have downloaded.
Also most will operate an Acceptable use policy - whilst they may not have caps set, they may geta nnoyed and reduce your speed or something, if you are seen to be abusing the bandwidth - this happened once to me when i was on bt and had maxed out my download for 32 days solid...i received a snotty letter!
