    ADSL modem recommendation

    G' morning guys.

Can anyone recommend me a PCI ADSL modem please? also, where to buy it would be an added bonus.

Does it really matter which one i get, or are they all basically the same?

    Thanks very much.
    Will.

Most common one people are using is the alcatel PCI modem thats available from various stores etc.

I've a friend that uses one and he has no issues at all with his connection using this card.

I'm using a Zoom-Hayes 5506. It's been absolutely spot on and never given any hassle. Its the only one I've had so can't really compare them but zoom-hayes always seem to get a good write up. I've got one of their usb adsl modems as well and thats very good. I bought it from Dabs B-List and can't really recall how much it was but had a few quid off.

Edit: Jings, just looked at the price and its £57. Definitely didn't pay that much

Conexant AccessRunner based cards are pretty much all the same, and very good

Any reason why you want a PCI modem over an external modem router? The latter will provide you with the ability to easily expand your network and share the internet with additional machines. Ebuyer's Origo is very cheap, around the £30 mark, and has been working here fine for over 6 months. IIRC Caged did a mini-review on the forums a while back.

Don't get a netgear i have nothing but hassle from mine (although newer versions might be better). My DG814 hates new firmware and crashes every 24 hours, drives me insane. Ig going to make a smoothwall box when i have the time and money. My mate uses a D-Link ethernet modem with no problems at all.

My USB Alcatel has served me very well - the PCI version is based on the same circuit so I imagine thats a good choice
